logging into groupwise

  1. Open the Novell GroupWise folder inside the Internet folder on your harddrive. Once inside, double-click the GroupWise application icon. You will be presented with a splash screen followed by the login window.

  2. First, type in your User ID and password (If this is your first time logging into GroupWise 5, your password has been set to your first name, as it appears on your account, in all lowercase letters). Next pull down the menu that currently says "Network" and choose "Client/Server."

  3. If you are staff, type in hummer.tamucc.edu for the IP address and 1677 for the port number if you are under the Office of the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration or 1678 if you are under the Office of the Provost. Next, Click the "Log In" button and the GroupWise main window will show up.

However, if you are faculty, type in
spoonbill.tamucc.edu for the IP address and 1677 for the port number. Next, Click the "Log In" button and the GroupWise main window will show up.

  4. Since a password as simple as your first name is a bad password to keep, let's change your password. Go to the Edit menu and choose preferences. You will see the dialog below. Click once on the "Security" button.

  5. You should now see the dialog below. The password section of the Security Preferences is the first section to show up (by pulling down the menu labeled "Password," you can modify Proxy settings). Type in your old password in the first blank and your newly chosen password in the next two blanks. Click "OK" and you're done.
